U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement today praising U.S. troops for their efforts to de-escalate after Russian Forces breached the deconfliction arrangement in Syria on Tuesday and condemning Russian forces and President Putin for Russia’s continued aggression:
“I’m very proud of the professionalism and bravery of the U.S. soldiers on the ground in Syria for the restraint they showed when confronted by aggressive and reckless Russian forces. Our troops demonstrated the rare combination of courage, wisdom and moral strength that truly makes America’s military the greatest in the world, and ensured the situation did not escalate into something worse. I am keeping those who were injured in my prayers.
“Russia, on the other hand, is continuing its reckless pattern of aggression and provocation, and Putin is accountable for the actions of Russian forces. Make no mistake: President Trump will defend our troops any time they are put in a position of danger, just like he did in eastern Syria in February 2018 when Russian mercenaries crossed the Euphrates River and threatened the safety and well-being of U.S. troops. I have full confidence, and our adversaries should have no doubt, that he will do the same when any future situation demands it. It won’t end well for Russian troops who threaten our forces.”
