Inhofe comments on Justice Stevens Retirement

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S Senator Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) made the following comments today regarding the retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens:

“I am hopeful that President Obama will choose a nominee to replace Justice Stevens that is both qualified and will hold to a strict interpretation of the constitution,” Inhofe said. “While I find it unlikely that his choice will be guided by these principles, I am not as concerned as many people about the vacancy considering he is of a more liberal persuasion.  If President Obama’s prior nominations to the federal bench are any indication, Justice Stevens will most likely be replaced by someone equally liberal. My concern would be greater if one of the more conservative, strict constructionists were to vacate their position during this Administration.”
