U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) congratulated Ethiopian Prime Minster Abiy Ahmed for being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize:
“I first met Dr. Abiy Ahmed in 2015 when he was a regional Vice President in Ethiopia, where he told me the powerful story of his journey through faith and how it shaped his leadership. I knew then that he would be a force for good. Since being elected prime minister in 2018, Abiy has seen much success at promoting democratic reforms, uniting opposing political parties, even doing what everyone said couldn’t be done—brokering a peace agreement with Eritrea following a decades-long conflict.
“More than that, Prime Minister Abiy has created optimism and hope for the future in a nation with a difficult past. His work is truly deserving of the Nobel Peace Prize, and I offer him my most sincere congratulations.”
Inhofe most recently met with Prime Minister Abiy in February 2019 where they discussed shared security goals for the United States and Ethiopia. Inhofe has made more than 160 African country visits.
