WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today congratulated the Lawton community for being named one of the top ten “Great American Defense Communities” by the Association of Defense Communities (ADC) and the Defense Communities Caucus. Inhofe also congratulated Mike “Coop” Cooper on his re-election as the president of Association of Defense Communities. Cooper’s re-election marks the first time a sitting president of the Association of Defense Communities was elected to a second term.
“The Lawton community has always set the gold standard for community support,” said Inhofe. “The Great American Defense Communities award acknowledges what Oklahomans already know- that the Lawton community is one of the top ten defense communities in the nation. Every time I visit Lawton and Fort Sill, I see first hand their strong sense of community and their support for our servicemembers, their families and our veterans. I am proud that they are being recognized for their dedication and hard work.
“Also, congratulations are in order for Mike Cooper on his re-election as president of the Association of Defense Communities. Coop’s support for the defense community in Oklahoma and across this nation is commendable, and I look forward to working with him in his next term.”
The top 10 “Great American Defense Communities” selected this year are: Lawton, Okla.; Colorado Springs, Colo.; Dayton, Ohio; Manhattan, Kansas; Ft Leonard Wood, Mo.; Goldsboro, N.C.; Grand Forks, N.D.; Monterrey, Calif.; and Puget Sound, Wash.
