WASHINGTON—This morning U.S. Sens. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), James Lankford (R-Okla.), and John Boozman (R-Ark.), met with Jim Downing, the second oldest known Pearl Harbor survivor at 103 years old and author of The Other Side of Infamy: My Journey through Pearl Harbor and the World of War. Downing was also an early member of The Navigators, a Christian organization founded in the 1930’s.
"It was an honor to meet with Navy veteran Jim Downing this morning and to listen to his firsthand account of the attack on Pearl Harbor," the senators said. "Mr. Downing, the second oldest Pearl Harbor survivor, is a man who has internalized the word of God and has played an active role in The Navigators Christian organization which cultivates faith in new believers through bible study, prayer, encouragement and council. The Navigators has helped countless Navy veterans cope with post-traumatic stress and other ailments. Mr. Downing's service, commitment to his faith, work and storied life is truly remarkable."
