Inhofe: President's Misguided Rush to Criminalize Terrorist Investigations Comes at Expense of National Security

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) released the following statement today on reports that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the surviving suspect in the horrific Boston Marathon bombings, is no longer cooperating with investigators:

“Recent media headlines that Dzhokhar Tsarnaev has stopped cooperating with investigators after being mirandized should come as no surprise. This development only reinforces that the Obama administration's misguided rush to criminalize terrorist investigations comes at the expense of our national security. Prior to being mirandized, Dzhokhar had been cooperating and providing information to authorities.  This troubling development will impede our efforts to know the facts surrounding the attacks in Boston and whether the attackers had ties to extremists abroad.  This administration needs to understand that the threat of terrorism to the Homeland remains real. Their decision to mirandize Dzhokhar less than one day after beginning to interrogate him sets a terrible precedent and could impede our efforts to stop similar attacks in the future.”
