WASHINGTON — U.S. Sen Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Environment and Public Works (EPW) Committee, today spoke in support of Annie Caputo, nominee to serve on the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and Susan Bodine, nominee to be assistant administrator of the Office of Enforcement and Compliance Assurance of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at their EPW nomination hearing.
Both Caputo and Bodine worked for Inhofe during his tenure as chairman of the EPW Committee.
Remarks as prepared for delivery:
Thank you Chairman Barrasso and Ranking Member Carper for the opportunity to say a few words about Annie Caputo and Susan Bodine.
I have worked with both of these nominees for many years and I am happy to support their well-deserved nominations.
Annie joined my EPW committee staff in 2007 through 2012 and again in 2015. Her experience and expertise is so well known and well regarded that staff and Senators on both sides of the aisle seek her input when it comes to nuclear issues.
Her expertise was invaluable to me during the aftermath of the Fukushima nuclear accident, in my work to ensure the NRC issued timely decisions on new nuclear plant licenses, and most recently, she has been central in developing the bipartisan Nuclear Energy Innovation Act.
Similarly, Susan Bodine has been an invaluable staffer to me during the last Congress as general counsel on my committee staff and her expertise and experience during her tenure at EPA during the George W. Bush administration was critical to me and my staff as we worked to address the Tar Creek Superfund site in northeast Oklahoma.
Last Congress, Susan was a large part of the team that put together the FAST Act and she was one of two key EPW staffers responsible for the Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act, advancing various infrastructure priorities with strong bipartisan support. Susan will be an asset to the agency where she has previously worked as she knows the laws that govern the EPA.
Thank you again for allowing me to speak to these two exceptional nominees, I look forward to working with you to advance their nominations.
