U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe was encouraged by the release of the Fiscal Year 2019 Budget, Efficient, Effective, Accountable: An American Budget, today. The President’s FY19 budget prioritizes national defense, cutting unnecessary spending and supports the infrastructure proposal. This budget is an important first step in the Congressional budget process:
“The Constitution says the federal government should be focused on doing two things—defending America and investing in infrastructure. By focusing on our constitutional priorities, President Trump is putting forward a responsible budget that cuts wasteful spending and will strengthen the American economy. I’m especially pleased that this budget fully funds the National Defense Strategy, provides the necessary investment in maintenance and modernization of our armed forces and strengthens border security. Additionally, the budget fully funds the infrastructure initiative Congress and the president are working on to build and modernize our roads, highways, bridges, waterways and more.
“While I’m pleased that this budget will cut $3 trillion by targeting wasteful programs and spending that have been held over from liberal administrations, I am concerned that this framework would not balance within 10 years. This underscores the need for us to continue cutting wasteful spending and promoting policies that will accelerate economic growth so our budget balances moving forward.”
