WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), today made the following statement after the U.S. Senate unanimously voted to confirm Leon Panetta as the next U.S. Secretary of Defense:

“While I do not always agree with him, Leon Panetta’s long record of public service and consistent support for our nation’s military qualify him to be the next U.S. Secretary of Defense.  As our servicemen and women continue the fight in Afghanistan and Iraq, I remain confident in his ability to successfully lead our nation’s troops. Leon Panetta was a colleague of mine in the U.S. House of Representatives, and I appreciate the opportunity to once again work with him to ensure our nation’s military continues to receive the resources necessary to protect our nation and allies.”
