WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), co-chair of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, joined Sens. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) Thursday in introducing the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion and Abortion Insurance Full Disclosure Act of 2015 (S. 582.). This legislation prohibits using federal funds for abortion services and requires healthcare plans on exchanges to disclose whether it covers abortion and the surcharge associated with those services.
“More than two-thirds of Americans oppose taxpayer money going to abortions, but uncertainty in the law allows it to happen. The legislation introduced today prevents taxpayer money from supporting these liberal policies and lessens the president’s ability to impose these policies on those who support and value the life of the unborn. I am committed to protecting the most vulnerable and voiceless among us and urge my colleagues in the Senate to take up and pass this important legislation.”
Upon introduction, the bill had 16 original cosponsors including Inhofe. The House companion legislation is H.R. 7, which passed the House on Jan. 22, 2015.
