U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), released a statement following his return from a visit to the National Guard soldiers of Oklahoma’s 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.
“I was honored to visit our Oklahoma National Guard service members last week in Ukraine and see the positive results of their mission to train Ukrainian Army forces. The 45th is playing a crucial role in supporting the United States and our allies by ensuring Ukrainians are equipped to deter and resist the threat of Russian encroachment and aggression in Eastern Europe.
“The Thunderbirds have a prestigious history of successful training missions, both in Afghanistan and in Iraq. I appreciated the opportunity to see them at work and personally express my appreciation for their service. In addition, I was able to discuss and thank three of the six brave and remarkable Soldiers that aided local Ukrainian nationals back in July during a building fire that saved lives. ”
A contingent of the 45th, commanded by Colonel David Jordan, has been in Ukraine since January on a yearlong mission to train and assist the Ukrainian Army.
