WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), today welcomed plans by Deputy Secretary of the VA Sloan Gibson to visit to the Oklahoma City and Muskogee VA Medical Centers in March.
“As we continue to fight for the care of our veterans, I welcome the VA’s new focus on facilities serving Oklahoma veterans and the announcement that Deputy Secretary Gibson plans to visit both the Oklahoma City and Muskogee VA Medical Centers,” said Inhofe. “This visit is another step toward improving the care our veterans receive in Oklahoma. Changes need to be made at the facilities which include both personnel and procedures. The next steps are visits to each of our centers by the VA Office of the Inspector General in coordination with an outside agency that will ensure our VA medical centers are meeting the same standards as private hospitals.”
On Feb. 23, 2016, Inhofe announced on the Senate floor that the new Department of Veterans Affairs Inspector General nominee has committed in writing to conduct investigations of Oklahoma’s VA hospitals in coordination with an outside entity. This commitment fulfills the request Inhofe made when he placed his hold on the VA Inspector General nominee, Michael Missal, on Feb. 1. Inhofe subsequently released that hold.
