WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee (SASC), today released a statement following the SASC voting 26–1 to recommend that the Senate give its advice and consent to the nomination of retired Gen. James N. Mattis to be Secretary of Defense when it is received by the Senate from the President. Mattis’s official nomination will be sent directly to the Senate without referral to the committee.
“Today’s 26–1 vote out of the SASC is a strong signal that Mattis is the civilian leader we need in control of our armed forces,” Inhofe said. “I look forward to receiving his nomination from the President and full Senate action on his confirmation.”
