U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today released the following statement after the Senate voted by voice last night to confirm Matthew P. Donovan to be Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness, and James E. McPherson to be Under Secretary of the Army.
“I’m glad the Senate moved last night to confirm Matt Donovan to be Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness and James E. McPherson to be Under Secretary of the Army. These roles are critical to the support of our military – particularly the men and women, and their families, who serve. The COVID-19 crisis has underscored the importance of having Senate-confirmed leadership in these key civilian roles; in particular, Mr. Donovan will be in charge of the Pentagon’s health affairs, and his leadership will be essential at this crucial time.
“Both Mr. Donovan and Mr. McPherson have served their country for years – first in uniform, and now, answering a new call. I am grateful for their continued willingness to serve and congratulate them on their confirmation.”
