SASC Chairman Inhofe Statement on Critical Minerals Strategy

U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, released the following statement today on the U.S. Department of Commerce report, “A Federal Strategy to Ensure Secure and Reliable Supplies of Critical Minerals”, released yesterday:

“The United States relies far too much on foreign nations for critical minerals used extensively throughout our military—making our nation vulnerable to the actions of foreign governments, natural disasters, and other supply disruptions,” Sen. Inhofe said. “The Trump administration’s strategy provides tangible steps to address these risks and diversify critical mineral supply chains in support of the National Defense Strategy. Building on last year’s National Defense Authorization Act, this year’s Senate bill also makes recommendations and investments to mitigate these vulnerabilities within our defense industrial base. By tapping even more into American innovation and resources for critical minerals, we will strengthen our national defense and economic security.”
