WASHINGTON – U.S. Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.) today was presented with the “Taxpayer Super Hero” award from the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste (CCAGW) for his perfect score of 100 percent, of which he was one of 17 lawmakers to earn.
The score is based on CCAGW’s 2015 Congressional Ratings, which identifies members whose voting records helped protect and save the taxpayers’ money. The recent ratings scored 100 votes in the House of Representatives and 35 votes in the Senate.
“It is an honor to be one of the few Members of Congress to receive the Taxpayer Super Hero award,” said Inhofe. “With Republicans back in control of the Senate, I promised to deliver on many projects important to Oklahoma that had been stalled in Congress and to do it by eliminating wasteful government spending. The greatest example of this was when we passed a five-year highway reauthorization bill that will soon begin to help reinvigorate and modernize Oklahoma’s major highways. It was a great honor to put forward this robust legislation that Congress funded without raising a dime in taxes. I also appreciate CCAGW for scoring critical votes on legislation I helped move forward in the Senate, to include overturning the Clean Power Plan. While many of the votes scored were overturned by the president, Congress is now on the record for what we can accomplish with a Republican in the White House.”
“We applaud and wholeheartedly thank Sen. Inhofe for his hard work on behalf of the taxpayers while serving in Congress,” said CCAGW President Tom Schatz. “His courageous votes to cut wasteful spending and make government more accountable should serve as an example to other members, encouraging them to make good on promises to protect the fiscal interests of American taxpayers.”
“We have no doubt that Sen. Inhofe will continue to help lead the effort to end wasteful spending and reduce the growing national debt,” added Schatz. “His constituents should be very proud of him.”
The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste is the lobbying arm of Citizens Against Government Waste, the nation’s largest nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to eliminating waste, fraud, abuse and mismanagement in government.
